ITINERARY:

Day 1: From Cusco to Pillcopata

Our journey into the captivating world of Peru birdwatching begins with the break of dawn at 4:30 a.m. We set our sights on the illustrious Manu Road, renowned among bird enthusiasts. Our initial pause brings us to the quaint hamlet of Paucartambo, a charming stopover where travelers can replenish their provisions with water, fresh fruits, and other necessities. By 7:30 a.m., we pass through the Acjanaco checkpoint, symbolizing our official entry into the Manu National Park.

Throughout the day, we delve deep into the heart of Manu Road, navigating a tapestry of altitudes. Commencing our journey at 3600 meters (12,000 feet), we traverse the park’s lofty peaks before gradually descending to 500 meters (1,640 feet), where Pillcopata awaits with its green embrace of tropical rainforest.

Day 2: Bamboo Patches, Inkamazonia Hummingbirds Garden and Machuwasi lake.

At 5:00 in the morning, we will head to the Atalaya Port to embark on the Upper Madre de Dios River in search of a clay lick for macaw and parrot spotting. After enjoying such a magnificent display gifted by nature, we will continue along the Upper Madre de Dios River towards the trail that will lead us to a lagoon amidst the thick jungle, where we will seek out other Peruvian bird species.

At an appropriate time, we will return to the town of Pillcopata for a visit to the Inkamazonia hummingbird garden, where we will also enjoy a delicious local lunch.

Following our lunch and close encounter with the most wonderful hummingbirds, we will venture to the fantastic bamboo patches where we can search for Peruvian birds related to this type of ecosystem.

Day 3: Return to Cusco

In due course, we bid farewell to the vibrant biodiverse haven of Manu Road and embark on our return journey to Cusco. Following a short break for lunch, we resume our voyage, ultimately arriving back in the city’s embrace by approximately 6:00 p.m., marking the end of our unforgettable Peruvian birdwatching adventure in the heart of Manu Road.
