ITINERARY:
Day 1: Endemic Birds, Short Cooking Class & Temple of the Sun
Our Cusco birdwatching tour will start by picking you up from your hotel at 6:00/6:30 am to go in a private vehicle to “El Balcon del Diablo”. This amazing place, special for watching Cusco birds, is located next to Sacsaywaman archeological site, like 20 minutes from Cusco City
Upon arrival to Balcon del Diablo we are going to start the exploring in 2 kilometers around looking for the Cusco birds and specially the Cusco endemic birds.
There’s no doubt that one of the best ways to get to know a destination is through its cuisine. That’s why we’ll continue our day with a brief Peruvian cooking class at noon. Then, we’ll head to enjoy a City Tour discovering the San Blas neighborhood, the 12 angules stones and the most emblematic Temple of the Incas…”The Inca Temple of the Sun”.
Day 2: Laguna Piuray, Ensifera Camp, Gastronomic Lunch Experience & Pisco Class
Our Cusco birdwatching tour will begin with hotel pickup at 5:30 am to drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas in a private vehicle. During the journey, we’ll make a strategic stop to search for birds of Cusco. Then, we’ll pause at Laguna Piuray, a high Andean lagoon that harbors a great diversity of Peruvian birds both in its waters and surroundings.
At the appropriate time, we’ll continue towards the Sacred Valley, enjoying unique landscapes until we reach the Ensifera Camp Hummingbird Garden, where we’ll have a unique encounter with Peru’s Andean hummingbirds. A short distance from there, we’ll find one of the best restaurants in the Sacred Valley, where we’ll enjoy a Peruvian buffet lunch accompanied by a chef who will help us better understand the culinary richness of Peru.
After lunch, we’ll head to the town of Ollantaytambo to catch our train to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes).
Day 3 Mandor Waterfalls and Machu Picchu Birds
We’ll kick off our Machupicchu Birdwatching Tour bright and early at 5:30 am with a tranquil stroll towards the Ruinas Bridge. Once we arrive, we’ll delve into the area to seek out Machu Picchu birds, including woodpeckers, tanagers, flycatchers, and hummingbirds. But the real stars of the show are the Machu Picchu endemic birds like the Masked Fruiteater, Green-and-White Hummingbird, and Inca Flycatcher, along with other remarkable Peruvian Birds species like the Andean Motmot, Green Jay, and Cock of the Rock.
As time permits, we’ll continue our journey towards the Mandor Cascades. The terrain here is flat, offering us ample opportunities to spot even more of birds of Machu Picchu.
Once we’ve worked up an appetite, we’ll head back to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch (please note that lunch is not included).
At 2:00 pm, accompanied by our guide, we’ll hop on a bus to ascend to the majestic Machu Picchu citadel for a captivating one-and-a-half-hour tour of this enchanting site. Keep your eyes peeled, as in certain areas of the citadel, particularly among the bamboo patches, you might catch a glimpse of the elusive Inca Wren, another of Machu Picchu’s endemic bird species.
When it’s time to depart (30 minutes before your train departure), you’ll board the train back to the Ollantaytambo town where we’ll spend the night.
Day 4: Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site and Traditional Andean Textiles Workshop
After enjoying our breakfast, we will have the opportunity to visit the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site (entrance fee not included, $25.00 per person). On our way back to Cusco, we will stop by a traditional Andean textile workshop, where we can immerse ourselves in a world of vibrant colors and ancient traditions.
Upon our arrival in Cusco, we will head to the selected hotel (accommodation not included), local restaurant or to the city’s airport.
