Cusco Birdwatching at Tambomachay

Tambomachay is an archaeological site from the Incas time. It is located just 20 minutes from Cusco city, at 3800 masl. This archaeological center is protected by the Peruvian state. At the same time it protects the nature of the place as are the plants, but especially the Cusco birds.

 

We will start our Cusco birdwatching tour by picking you up from your hotel at 6:00 am to go in a private vehicle to Tambomachay area.

 

In this place we are going to start our Cusco birding morning walking around the parking area, which it is full of flower attracting different hummingbirds as well as flowerpierces.

 

Later, we will walk uphill at a slow pace for 500 meters through a Polilepys forest looking for the beautiful Cusco endemic bird called Chestnut-breasted Mountain- Finch.

 

Going higher, we will get into the beginning of an Inca trail that used to connect this Cusco area with the sacred valley. At this point, we will look for another Cusco endemic bird known as Rusty-fronted Canastero and Creamy-creasted Spinetail.

 

At 7:30 am we are going to have our picnic-breakfast enjoying the peace of the area and trying to watch more Cusco birds.

 

At 9:30 am, ending our Cusco Birdwatching tour we will bring you back to your hotel.

 

The walking will be like 4-kilometers in total (roundtrip)

    Tit-like Dacnis, Chestnut-breasted Mountain- Finch (E), Creamy-creasted Spinetail (E), Rusty-fronted Canastero (E), Streak-Fronted Thornbird (NE), Giant Hummingbird, Tufted Tit-Tyrant, Black-throated Flowerpiercer, Peruvian Sierra-Finch, Plumbeous Sierra-Finch, Golden-billed Saltator and more.
